Aaron

Akpu Philip is a Public Health Practitioner with up to 10 years experience working and volunteering in both the Global North and South. He holds a first degree in Microbiology from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria and an M.Sc. in Public Health-Health Promotion from Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom.

Currently, Aaron is a Doctoral Researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, where he explores the "Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy among Persons with Disabilities living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Nigeria". He has worked as a Sessional Academic in QUT and supported the learning of first-year students on the “Contemporary Human Rights” course.

His skills and competencies include programme plan development, HIV counseling, HIV referrals, and escort services, risks and health needs assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), and social behaviour change and communication. He has worked with vulnerable groups in Nigeria (orphans and vulnerable children, injecting drug users, persons with disabilities, and sex workers) as well as with the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community in the UK. In Aaron's quest for impact, he uses his personal stories to inspire young people towards personal and professional growth. He writes on development issues that premise on health, disability inclusion, human rights, and governance.
